Imaging and Laboratory Services
Getting answers about your health is key to helping you manage your care. For your convenience, we offer both X-ray and lab services.
X-ray Imaging
You must have an order for an X-ray from a Northwestern Medicine clinician. Generally, you can get an X-ray Monday through Friday, between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm (excluding holidays). A registered technologist of radiology will perform the X-ray.
Your Student Health Service clinician can review the X-rays when they’re taken, and a radiologist from Northwestern Medicine will provide a final interpretation and report.
Official reports are usually available in about two business days.
Lab Tests
Lab tests must be ordered by a licensed physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or other advanced practice provider. Schedule lab appointments by calling 847.491.8100 or through MyNM.
We can also perform some point-of-care lab tests on-site, such as tests for flu, strep throat and mono. Point-of-care tests usually require a visit with one of our clinicians.
We send most specimens to Northwestern Medicine's reference laboratory. We will bill your insurance for all tests performed by or sent out from the Student Health Service (except those covered by your Health Fee). NU-SHIP covers 100% of all lab tests sent from the Student Health Service.
