Our mission is to improve health care through the development of rehabilitation specialists who advance clinical practice. Our residency program is a 21-month program and a two-year employment agreement.
We’re currently seeking accreditation for our athletic training residency program, which is not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). A self-study to begin the accreditation process was submitted on July 1, 2024.

Admission Requirements

- Current Board of Certification (BOC) Inc. certification as an athletic trainer or successful completion of the BOC exam and able to show proof of BOC Inc. certification within three months of your start date
- Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Athletic Training License, or IDFPR license-eligible and able to show proof of license within six months of your start date
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree from a CAATE-accredited program
- Develop a specialist in rehabilitation who demonstrates advanced clinical practice with particular focus in clinical reasoning, sports science, leadership and professionalism.
- Meet and exceed residency program expectations while the resident is consistently fulfilled by the work they do.
- Demonstrate excellence by delivering patient-centered, quality health care.
Upon completing our program, residents should be able to:
- Identify, select, and implement a variety of tools to demonstrate outcome measured practice.
- Demonstrate advanced practice leadership consistent with the values of the department and organization.
- Demonstrate a continuous process of self-reflection, assimilation of evidence and critical thinking to enhance clinical reasoning abilities and delivery of patient care.
- Improve clinical practice and health care through scholarship.
- Contribute to the residency program by fostering an educational, collaborative and challenging environment.
- Meet stated program resident achievement measures and obtain employment providing advanced practice in rehabilitation.
